CWASA launches quality improvement home survey

Chittagong WASA has launched a house-based survey programme in the port city aiming to improve the quality of the water supplied to its subscribers.

The programme has kicked off ahead of the water supply authority's opening a major water treatment project with the capacity of 90 million litres by the end of October this year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the Chittagong Water Supply Improvement and Sanitation Project, popularly known as the Madunaghat Project, the work of which is nearing completion.

Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated the survey programme at Jamal Khan ward this morning.

Managing Director of the CWASA Engineer AKM Fazlullah, Deputy Manager (Finance) Nurul Alam, its senior officials and councillor of Jamal Khan ward Saibal Das Sumon, among others, were present on the occasion.

AJM Nasir said the CWASA is working on a number of development projects after completion of which all citizens in the city will get water supply. There will be no crisis of water then.

He said the development works are temporarily causing problem to the commuters and the citizens are to face the inconvenience for the time being.

Engineer AKM Fazlullah said the CWASA currently meets the demand of 70 per cent of the city people.

The rest 30 per cent people will come under its supply coverage within a short time.

He said the purpose of the survey programme is to ensure availability of water, improve quality of the deep tube-well water, ensure perfect billing and check misuse of water through perfect metering system.

He said the house-to-house survey started today and the card-holder officials and employees will conduct the survey in all 41 wards of the city until it ends.

He sought cooperation of the city dwellers in completing the survey successfully.

Meanwhile, the CWASA held the 48th general meeting of the CWASA Board of Directors with its Chairman Professor Engineer SM Nazrul Islam in the chair at the CWASA office at Dampara in the city on Saturday.

The meeting approved the programme report of the CWASA Executive Magistrate, Chief Revenue Officer's report, naming of the Madunaghat Water Treatment Plant after Sheikh Russel and other related issues.
