Youth held for spreading PM’s distorted image online

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained a youth charged with distorting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s image and uploading the distorted version through ‘offensive’ posts on Facebook from Keshabpur area in Rajshahi city.

The detainee was identified as Ratul Rahman, son of Ataur Rahman of Betiapara area near Rajpara Police Station.

Tipped off, a team of RAB-5, led by Major SM Morshed, conducted a drive in Bheripara area of Keshabpur at around 7:00pm on Tuesday and detained Ratul from a shop, according to a RAB press note circulated on Thursday.

A mobile set, two memory cards and a screenshot of the Facebook post were also seized from his possession, it said.

And of course, the case filed against Ratul for his youthful folly, was under the Digital Security Act, that even as recently as October 21 was held up by the European Union as a blight on Bangladesh’s human rights record, reports UNB.
