A woman has died after being set on fire by her husband at her in-laws’ house in Rangpur’s Mithapukur Upazila.
Tonny Akter, 22, died during her treatment at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital early Sunday, said Dr Ruposhree Paul, a physician of the hospital. She suffered burns to about 100 per cent of her body.
“Tonny came under an arson attack on Wednesday and she was admitted to the hospital at that night,“ said Ruposhree, according to bdnews24.com.
Tonny was married to Waheduzzaman from Jadavpur village in Mithapukur’s Kafrikhal union.
Waheduzzaman set her on fire after pouring kerosene on her over a family dispute, the victim’s mother-in-law Rawshan Ara said.
Police arrested Waheduzzaman after a case was filed, said Zafar Ali, chief of Mithapukur Police Station.
The couple’s three-year-old son Tamim was also admitted to hospital with burns.
“Tonny had married Waheduzzaman after the two developed a relationship about six years ago. She went out of touch with her family after her marriage,” said the victim’s mother Sahnaz.
