Suspected mugger dies in B’baria ‘gunfight’

A suspected mugger was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police in Bypass Rail Gate area of Akhaura upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Khokon Sutradhar, 30.

Khokon was arrested along with Tk 1.87 million looted from a private company representative on Monday afternoon, said Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station.

A team of police along with Khokon conducted a drive in the Bypass Rail Gate area around 3:00am to arrest his accomplices.

Khokon was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries while his cohorts managed to flee the scene.

He was taken to Akhaura Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, according to a UNB report.

Khokon was also wanted in several cases, including that of mugging, the OC said.
