Suspect in 15 cases dies in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

A man accused in over a dozen cases has been killed in an alleged shootout with police in Abaderhat area of Sadar upazila in Satkhira early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Nabab Ali, son of Mujib Molla of Bakchora village in the upazila, also accused in 15 cases including murder and robbery.

Tipped off, a police team was dispatched to the area around 4 am after learning the whereabouts of Nabab, said Maruf Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station.

Sensing presence of police, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate back, triggering a gunfight.

In the aftermath of skirmish, the law enforcers recovered Nabab’s bullet riddled body from the spot.

Police also recovered a foreign pistol, one round bullet and four machetes, said the OC.

The OC also claimed that sub-inspector Ibrahim Khalil and two constables Ashik and Tuhin sustained injuries during the gunfight, reports UNB.
