Six ‘carjackers’ held in city

Detectives arrested six alleged members of a 'carjacking' gang along with stolen vehicles from the capital and elsewhere.

During drives conducted on Tuesday, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police also recovered 11 stolen motorcycles, two CNG-run auto-rickshaws, five police uniforms, one pair of handcuffs and 20 sedative tablets from their possession.

The arrestees are Md Rafique, Md Manik, Md Abdul Alim, Md Hasan Mridha, Mohammad Ali and Md Chand Miah.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they used to lift motorcycles and auto-rickshaws from Dhaka city and then sell those in different areas across the country, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman on Wednesday, reports UNB.

Rafique and Manik used to steal vehicles and sell those to Alim, who then sell those through his associates, including Hasan Mridha, after changing engine and chassis numbers, the DC said.
