Shrine dispute leads to murder in Chittagong

A man was stabbed to death by his rivals on Tuesday night following a dispute over the annual Urs of a shrine in Boalkhali upazila in Chittagong.

The deceased, Shah Alam, 52, was the son of Najir Ahmed of the area.

Himangshu Kumar, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali Police Station, said two groups of people had been at loggerheads over arranging the annual Urs at Charandwip Fakirakhali Shahi Darbar of Hazar Shah Shafi Tufan Ali Shah scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

Following the argument, an altercation ensued among the two groups around 10 pm on Tuesday.

At one stage, the rivals stabbed Shah Alam indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, reports UNB.

Later, he was taken to Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries around 10:30 pm.
