Rohingya man killed in Ukhia camp

A 23-year-old Rohingya man was stabbed to death on Wednesday at Ukhia’s refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, police said.

The deceased was identified as Jahidul Islam, 23, a masonry workers’ leader and son of a resident of C-3 block in Camp No. 5 of Ukhia’s Kutupalong, reports UNB.

The killing occurred at the C-3 block of the camp on Wednesday afternoon, said Armed Police Battalion commander, superintendent of police (SP) Naimul Haque.

Three to four people including Rohingya workers Mohammad Sultan and Anisur Rahman went to Jahidul Islam’s house asking for the due wage. At one point they stabbed him and fled the spot, the SP added.

The locals later rescued Jahidul and took him to a local clinic where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The body of the deceased was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police are conducting operations to nab those involved in the murder, Naimul Haque further said.
