Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel have seized 90 metric tons rice of KaBiKha (Food for Work) programme of the government from a rice mill in Chapainawabganj.

They also arrested food godown officer Golam Rabbani and two members of Jhilim union parishad Bithi Rani Karmakar and Aminul Islam in sadar upazila of the district in connection with the seizure.

RAB sources said upazila administration allotted 340 metric tonnes rice under the Kajer Binimoye Khadya (KaBiKha) programme to build cluster village in front of Ranihati College for landless people.

A five member committee, including Bithi Rani as its president, was formed for the implementation of the project, reports BSS.

Mohammad Syed Abdullah Al Murad, camp commander of RAB-5, said Bithi Rani collected 90 metric tonnes rice from Chapainawabganj food godown on Thursday noon.

Violating the government rules, they kept the collected rice, which was supposed to be kept in Shibganj upazila food godown, in the mill for selling those in black market.

Executive magistrate Nayan Kumar Rajbongsi sealed the rice mill. Later, the elite force filed a case against the three and Akbar Hossain, manager of the mill, under the Special Powers Act.
