RAB nabs pilot over ‘plane sabotage’ bid

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have detained a pilot of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and three others from Mirpur's Darussalam area in Dhaka.

RAB Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan on Tuesday said the law enforcers arrested them Monday night in a raid on charges of planning to ‘sabotage a plane’.

The name of detained Biman Bangladesh co-pilot (first officer) is Sabbir Anam.

His father had rented out the suspected 'militant hideout' at Darussalam area to JMB suicide bomber Abdullah.

Anam was removed from active duty after the authorities discovered the hideout in September last.

“The four detainees are accomplices of Darussalam JMB suicide bomber Abdullah,” RAB-4 Commander Md Lutfur Kabir said, according to bdnews24.com.

“They were planning to sabotage a plane,” he said.

On September 4, RAB raided the hideout in Mirpur’s Darussalam.

Abdullah, his two wives, two sons and two accomplices had been living on the fifth floor of the building.
