Jubo League leader stabs farmer, pregnant women over election-related rivalry

A farmer and his pregnant wife were stabbed allegedly by a Jubo League leader over Union Parishad election-related rivalry in Kalia Upazila in Narail district on Saturday.

The injured were identified as Jannat Molla, 45, his wife Shila Begum, 35, residents of Chanchuri village.

According to UNB, the injured are currently undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

According to witnesses and police, accused Tourut Molla, general secretary of Chanchuri union Jubo League, who contested for the chairman post in the UP election held on November 28, was defeated.

Jannat Molla, who campaigned for Tourut’s rival candidate in the election, and a conflict between them started since then.

Tourut and his associates started chasing Jannat Molla carrying sharp weapons after an altercation with him at his house over a trifling matter Saturday morning.

As Jannat’s wife Shila went to save her husband they attacked both, leaving them severely injured.

Locals rushed them to Narail Sadar Hospital and later they were transferred to KMCH as their condition deteriorated.

Ratanuzzaman, Inspector of Kalia police station said efforts are on to arrest the attackers and a case will be filed in this regard.

Victim Jannat Molla said, “Since the UP election local Jobo League leader Tourut Molla and his men were harassing us and finally they injured my pregnant wife and me with sharps weapons on Saturday.”

When contacted, accused Tourut Molla said,” I went to help resolve a small family feud there but didn’t even take any side”.
