Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) members has arrested an accused in a case filed over the killing of blogger and writer Avijit Roy.
The law enforcers arrested the accused, Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib, during a drive on Sunday night at Iqbal Road area of Mohammadpur in Dhaka.
The arrestee is also an active member of intelligence branch of Ansarullah Bangla Team.
Deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said that Siddiq was identified as accused after analysing the CCTV footage.
A special CTTC team conducted a drive around 08:05 pm and arrested Siddiq.
In a primary interrogation, the arrestee confessed that he is an active member of ABT. He had direct involvement in the murder, said sources.
Avijit, son of noted physicist Ajoy Roy and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was hacked to death, and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya was injured as unidentified killers attacked them with meat cleavers near TSC on the Dhaka University Campus on February 26 in 2015.
