348g of gold seized from passenger’s shoes at Dhaka airport

Customs officials have seized 348g of gold hidden in the shoes of a passenger at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, a news agency reported.

Milon Pramanik, a Biman Bangladesh passenger, was detained after his flight from Malaysia landed at the airport at 6am, said Customs Intelligence and Investigation Division Director General Moinul Khan.

“He was questioned by customs detectives as he was going through the green channel and denied carrying any gold. He was searched and nine bars of gold were found hidden in his shoes.

The recovered gold has an estimated market value of Tk 1.5 million, said Khan.

Legal actions will be taken against the detainee, he added.
