28 suspected robbers held after gunfight in Savar, four cops injured

Police have detained 28 members of a bandit group that had hijacked a bus after a gunfight in Savar.

Four police personnel, including an OC, were injured in the incident which occurred on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Ashulia around 11:00pm on Thursday.

Five injured passengers bound with rope were rescued from the bus, bdnews24.com reported citing Dhaka Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Khorshed Alam.

“Twenty-eight bandits boarded a bus from Manikganj, disguised as passengers, planning to rob it,” he said.

The gang opened fire on several teams of police in Nabinagar after they ordered the bus to slow down. The police returned fire and surrounded them. The robbers were arrested soon afterwards.

A pistol, five rounds of ammunition and some other weapons were found in the bus.

Ashulia Police Station OC Abdul Awal and Inspector Zahidul Islam were among the four police personnel injured in the incident. They have received first aid.
