165 fishermen jailed for defying hilsha ban

A total of 165 fishermen were jailed charged with netting hilsha fish defying the ongoing ban in the river Padma in Shariatpur district.

Kafi Bin Kabir, executive magistrate of mobile court, gave the order on Tuesday afternoon.

Besides, 544 KGs of seized mother hilsha were distributed at an orphanage and 0.2 million metres of current nets were burnt, says a news agency report.

Earlier from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon, Fisheries Directorate, police and mobile court conducted drive in the river Padma of Noria, Jazira, and Bhedorganj upazilas.
