Covid-19: Nearly 8,000 health workers, over 800 newsmen infected 

About 8,000 healthcare workers and over 800 newsmen have so far tested positive for Covid-19 in the country.

Besides, the number of the doctors died due to the coronavirus infections stood at 87, according to Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).

The BMA in a press statement said, some 2723 doctors, 1943 nurses and some 3201 other health staffers infected with the novel coronavirus since March 8 to September 9, totalling the number to 7867.

The apex body of the country's physicians expressed deep grief and condolences to the victims’ families on Wednesday night saying that the contribution of the physicians in such a crisis situation will not be forgotten.

Apart from the physicians, as many as 833 newsmen of some 182 national and regional newspapers, TV, online media and other platforms were infected with the lethal virus.

At least 19 journalists died from the novel coronavirus infections while another 11 died with coronavirus-like symptoms in the country since the first deaths from the virus were announced on March 18.

Newsmen are facing the brunt of the virus infection amid the pandemic because of their role of covering events from the frontline, according to a local journalists’ platform named ‘Our Media, Our Rights’.

Among the total number of infected, some 562 were from capital Dhaka, it added, saying that some 665 newsmen made recovery and joined their services so far.
