Winter cake business, a blessing to 200 families in Bogra

With the winter setting in, more than 400 people of 200 families have found solvency in piping hot cake business in Bogra.

“I earn more than Tk 600 at the cost of some Tk 200 every day,” said Golzar Hossain, 60, who sells Bhapa Pitha at a roadside shop in Sadar upazila.

He said he gets Tk 5 to 6 from each cake which is made for Tk 4 to 5, he said, adding that he deals in cake business every winter season.

The warm and hot cake business started in the last week of October and it will continue until that time of January next year.

To run the business, one needs to invest Tk from 300 to 500, according to an official concerned, who does not want to be named in the news.

Roadside winter cake shops have come up in Bogra municipality, Dupchanchia, Kahaloo, Adamdighi, Shibganj, Sherpur, Sonatola, Gabtoly, Nandigram, Shajahanpur, Dhunat and sadar upazilas of the district.

Minor children help their parents sell cakes at many makeshift shops defying bone chilling cold, according to this correspondent who has visited the shops recently.

Bogra president of Small Cottage and Industries Rafiqul Islam, who is a keen observer of the cake business, these people have already attained solvency due to the brisk sale of Bhapa Pitha in the district.
