Wheat harvesting sets off in Panchagarh

Farmers in the district have started harvesting wheat amid an expectation of achieving a bumper production of the crop in the current season.

Sources with the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said the farmers are happy with the output and the newly harvest wheat is being sold in the local market at a price ranging between Tk 900 and 1000 per maund (40kg).

One of the farmers Susil Kumar of Sadar upazila said he cultivated wheat on 3 bighas of land this year and achieved a yield of 33 maunds. The farmer earned a net profit of Tk 21,000 by cultivating wheat this time, reports BSS.

DAE Deputy Director Samsul Haque said the department provided training to the farmers on modern wheat faring technology, developed seeds and fertilisers to boost production.
