Waterlogging has become a long-standing problem for the people in Bhabdaha area in Jashore district as the Bill Khukshiar Tidal Reservoir (TRM) has remained closed for a long time.

Villages Balidha, Panchakari, Bajekultia, Mashiyahati, Hatgachha, Sujatpur, Dumratala, Lakhaidanga and Kapaliya have been inundated by rain water. Most of the houses in these villages have already gone under water.

Waters of 27 beels pass through Bhabodaha sluice gate. But the sluice gate has become a death trap for the people of Bhabodaha today.

The water in the beels cannot go down because the river bed has filled up with silt in the river. As a result, the water of these beels cannot recede properly causing immense suffering to the people.

So, Bhabdaha is the name of the sorrow of 1.0 million people of Jashore and Khulna districts.

Although many projects were taken up in the name of solving the Bhabdaha problem, but to no effect.. At present, 18 out of 21 gates of Bhabdaha Sluice gate are closed due to siltation. Locals feel that if it is not repaired quickly, the Bhavadaha area will be submerged in the monsoon season like the previous years.

The Mukteshwari, Teka, Sri and Hari Har rivers of this region have lost navigability due to siltation. There is knee water at high tide but completely dry at low tide for which the locals are facing severe floods time and again. Moreover, if the extra monsoon starts, more than 10 lakh people in three upazilas of the region will be inundated.

This water has washed away all the crops and fish of the people of Bhabdaha region.
