SIRAJGANJ, Aug 13: Vegetable prices are soaring up both in retail and wholesale markets in northern six districts from the last week.
Sources said poor-income groups of Bogura, Sirajganj, Natore, Pabna, Naogaon and Joypurhat districts are suffering much due to high market price of the necessary items.
Each kg of brinjal is being sold at Tk 30 to Tk 35, bitter gourd at Tk 30 to Tk 40, pointed gourd at Tk 40 to Tk 45, water spinach at Tk 15 to Tk 20 and okra at Tk 30 to Tk 35.
Besides, snake bean is selling at Tk 30 to Tk 32, red spinach at Tk 30 to Tk 35, radish at Tk 10 to Tk 15, cucumber at Tk 40 to Tk 50, arum at Tk 30 to Tk 40 and snake gourd at Tk 20 to Tk 22 in the retail market.
A good number of locals urged the authority concerned to take immediate steps to monitor the market so that traders can hike the price by making syndicates.
