Two held at Benapole with gold bars worth Tk 16.70m

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two suspected smugglers along with 26 gold bars worth Tk 16.7 million from Benapole check-post area on Friday.

The arrestees are Imran Hossian, 22, son of Ali Hossain and Billal Hossian, 25, son of Rezaul Islam, residents of Balunda village.

Tipped off, a patrol team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and arrested them around 10:00am, news agency UNB reported, citing BGB-49 commanding officer Lt Col Ariful Haq.

Later, they recovered 26 old bars, weighing 4.2 kilogram, searching their bodies.

The arrestees were handed over to Benapole Police station.

A case has been filed.
