Three workers killed in Shariatpur as truck plunges into roadside ditch

Three workers were killed and six others injured as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Khelsi area of Shariatpur sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased have been identified as Md Rahmat Hossain, 40, Naim Hossain, 25, and Idris, 60 - all hailing from Chetua area of Ashasuni upazila under Satkhira district.

The injured workers said they had come to Shariatpur from Satkhira on April 24 for farming job, according to a UNB report.

Niaz Mohammad, deputy assistant director of Shariatpur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the accident took place around 10:30pm when the paddy-laden truck, carrying 12 workers, plunged into the roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the wheels, leaving the trio dead on the spot and six others injured.

The injured were admitted at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.
