Three workers have died in a landslide when they were illegally extracting stones from a quarry in Sylhet on Wednesday, police have said.

Death toll reached eight in a week from landslides in stone quarries in Sylhet following yesterday’s incident.

Wednesday’s landslide buried them when they were extracting stones from a 70 feet deep hole dug on a hillock in Companiganj Upazila, according to police.

Kancha Mia, one of the workers, was found dead in the immediate search into the quarry, but two others, Afaz Uddin, 43, and Zahir Mia, remained missing. Fire service personnel recovered their bodies Thursday morning, said Police Inspector Shafiqur Rahman Khan.

One worker was admitted to the MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital with injuries, reports bdnews24.

Similar circumstances led to the death of five workers at an illegal stone quarry in the same Upazila of Sylhet on Sunday night.
