Three more die in Rangpur keep-warm fire

Three more people, who suffered burns in fires they started to keep warm in the wintry weather, have died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

With the latest, the hospital has so far registered 21 such deaths. Now it has 52 other inpatients who had burns in similar situations.

The three burn victims who died between around 7:30am on Friday morning and around 10:30pm on Thursday have been identified as Rumki Begum, 27, Geeta Rani, 25, and Maqbool Hossain, 70, reports bdnews24.

Rani passed away around 7:30am on Friday, while Hossain died around 10:30pm on Thursday and Begum died some time later, said RMCH Burn Unit Registrar Towheed Alam Siddik.

Temperatures have dropped in the country since the start of the new year. A severe cold wave in the north-west region resulted in a record low temperature of 2.6 degrees in Panchagarh’s Tetulia on January 8.
