Three die in lightning strikes in Thakurgaon

At least three people were killed and five others injured after being stuck by thunderbolts in Haripur and Pirganj upazilas in Thakurgaon on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Moinuddin, 26, son of Ashanur, and Shariphan, 40, wife of Md Bablu of Lahuchand village of Haripur upazila and Mobarak Ali, 38, of Patuapara village in Pirganj upazila.

Eyewitness said two brothers Moinuddin and Naimuddin were going to paddy field and on the way they took shelter at Bablu's house seeing thunderbolt on the sky, said Dangipara Union Parishd Chairman Moniruzzaman Moni.

But, two brothers and Babul's wife Shariphan sustained injuries when a thunderbolt struck them, leaving them critically injured, he said.

Later, they were taken to Ranisankail Hospital where the duty doctor declared Moinuddin and Sariphon dead.

A case of un-natural death was filed with Haripur Police Station, said Ruhul Kuddus, officer-in-charge of the police station.

In Pirganj upazila, Mobarak Ali was killed after being hit by thunderbolt while he was sleeping in his home, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer AWM Rahman, reports UNB.
