Teacher-shortage hampers education in 13 Naogaon pry schools

Academic activities at thirteen government primary schools in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon district are being hampered for a long due to shortage of adequate number of teachers.

Sources said there are only 34 teachers for some 1,257 students at the 13 government primary schools.

Of them, two teachers against 103 students at Indrasguna Government Primary School, 2 teachers against 69 students at Lalukabari Government Primary School, 2 teachers against 75 students at Lakshmikol Government Primary School, 2 teachers against 75 students at Uttar Sadispur Government Primary School, 3 teachers against 100 students at Bhoyalpur Government Primary School, 2 teachers against 57 students at Parora Government Primary School, 2 teachers for 98 students at Tajpur Panch Ghariya Government Primary School, 4 teachers for 208 students at Gopalpur Government Primary School, 2 teachers for 68 students at Purbabangram Government Primary School, 4 teachers for 75 students at Koybhabanipur Government Primary School, 3 teachers against 105 students at Jagadeeshpur Government Primary School, 3 teachers against 126 students at Sagarpur Government Primary School, and 3 teachers against 98 students at Pashchim Khadail Government Primary Sc-hool.

A total of 39 posts are lying vacant at these educational institutes resulting in great suffering of the students in receiving proper education, sources added.

Asim Ghosh, guardian of a student in Sadar upazila, said for lack of adequate number of teachers, the existing manpower cannot maintain educational environment appropriately at the schools.

"I wonder how an educational institution having hundreds of students can be operated with only two teachers!", Mr Ghosh said expressing astonishment.

Upazila education officer Fazlur Rahman admitted the matter and said a letter was sent to the office concern to take proper steps to fill the vacant posts a few months laback.

But, unfortunately some fourteen teachers have recently been appointed at different educational institutions of the upazila other than the struggling 13 schools, he said, adding, a new letter would be submitted to the authorities soon.
