KHULNA, Dec 24: Harvest of T-Aman paddy is going on in full swing in the nine upazilas of the district.
Farmers are expecting a bumper output with a fair price market price this season.
Sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office said a total of 91,180 hectares of land have been brought under T-Aman paddy cultivation in the district this year with the production target of 2,40,787 tonnes.
At least 0.12 million tonnes of T-Aman paddy were achieved from the harvest till now.
Production rate is around 4.3 tonnes per hectare of land. The official said farmers are hopeful of achieving a plenteous production of T-Aman rice this season as its harvest continues amid favorable climate conditions with excellent yield rate.
In Dacope upazila, a total of 18,825 hectares of land have been brought under T-Aman paddy cultivation with the production target of 54,172 tonnes of rice.
The upazila is the largest T-Aman paddy production area among the nine upazilas of the district.
Upazila agriculture officer Mehedi Hassan Khan and sub-assistant agriculture officer Mijanur Rahaman said farmers have already harvested 40 per cent of Aman rice from total cultivated land.
Deputy Director (DD) of the DAE Pankaj Kanti Majumder said favourable weather, proper distribution of high-quality seeds by Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and timely supply of fertilisers and other agro-inputs to the growers are the reasons for getting desired production.
The DAE also provided training to the farmers for adopting modern technologies, crop management and preservation of quality seed.
T-Aman paddy is being sold at Tk 560 per maund (40 kg) in the local market though the government has fixed the rate at Tk 1,040 per maund.
Dacope upazila sub-assistant agriculture officer said, "This year the upazila food office will collect 1,873 tonnes of rice from the farmers through lottery system."
