Sesame cultivation expanding across Bogura district

BOGURA, July 04: Sesame farmers of the district are expecting a bumper yield this season.

Officials at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) have encouraged the marginal farmer to grow the oilseed on a large scale for more benefit.

Sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Azizar Rahman said sesame farming is profitable venture. Growers of the district get good yield of the crop and market prices of the produce are also satisfactory.

February to March is the high time for sowing the seed of the crop, said farmer Narayan of Shibganj upazila.

The farmer can harvest the crop after 120 to 140 days of the cultivation, he added.

"I have cultivated sesame on five decimals of land investing Tk 3,500 this season," said farmer Aminur Islam of Sherpur upazila.

The cultivator expects to make a profit of Tk 13,000 this season.

Sesame cultivation requires low cost. The farming is popular across the country for easy production procedure.

Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said, "We encourage the cultivators to expand sesame farming in the area."
