A Rohingya boy drowned while taking a bath in Labaner Math in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Irfan Ali, 11, son of Aman Ullah, resided at Nayapara camp for the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.

Abdus Salam, in-charge of Nayapara camp, said Irfan went to the water body near the camp for taking a bath around 9:30pm and drowned.

He was later rescued by locals and taken to the health complex where doctors pronounced him dead, UNB reported.

Bangladesh is currently hosting more than 1.2 million Rohingyas. Most of them came here after Aug 25, 2017 when the Myanmar military launched a brutal offensive targeting the ethnic minority.
