Road crash claims another student’s life

Another college girl was killed on Saturday after being hit by a covered van at Barabari on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Gazipur amid the ongoing student demonstrations demanding safer roads.

After the incident, an angry mob halted the covered van along with its driver and set the vehicle on fire while the driver was given a good beating.

The enraged people also blocked the highway in the College Gate area of Tongi. Later, firefighters doused the flame, reports UNB.

The accident occurred while the college girl— Farzana Alam Mim, 19, a student of Safiuddin Sarker Academy and College (SSAC) in Tongi— was crossing the road around 11:00 am.

The injured Mim was taken to Tongi Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead, said officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station Kamal Hossain.
