JOYPURHAT, Apr 16: With effective efforts, poultry farms are boosting the rural economy in Joypurhat.
The veterinary doctors of the upazilas are ensuring smooth medicare service to check the outbreak of different deadly diseases like bird flu and 'Rani Khet' in the poultry farms.
The farms have created opportunities for providing jobs to unemployed young people. A good number people have improved their socio-economic condition within avery short time.
According to district livestock office sources, more than 2500 big, medium and small size poultry farms have been set up in the district to alleviate poverty from the region. The poultry farms are producing over 08 million hens round the year to provide meat and eggs for the consumers.
To expand the farming, the state-run commercial banks and other financial institutions including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) and Thengamara Mahila Sabuj Sangha (TMSS) have disbursed easy-term loans.
"I took the initiative to enhance poultry farm in my own tin shed farm as the mobile teams of the district livestock department are ensuring supervision round the clock," said farmer Ataur Rahman under Pachbibi upazila.
Farmer Hamidul Islam under Kalai upazila of the district said, Tk 5.0 to 6.0 is needed for feeding a layer chicken every day. Tk 1300 to 1500 is needed for rearing hundred hybrid chickens, which lays 3200 to 3500 eggs a year, he said.
District livestock official said the lifestyle condition of many unemployed including youths and farmers in the district have started improving after setting up poultry farms. We provide them help to ensure a lucrative business, they added.
