RAJSHAHI, Aug 26: Officials of the Department of Health have started collecting samples of Aedes mosquito larvae for the second time in Rajshahi.
Dr Gopendranath Acharya, director of Department of Health, Rajshahi, in this connection said samples of larvae of Aedes mosquito are being collected from various areas of the city and surroundings from Sunday.
After collection, those samples will be tested in hatcheries whether Aedes mosquitoes are being reproduced freshly there.
Earlier from August 02 to 06 officials of the department collected samples of larvae of Aedes mosquitoes from 100 spots of the city including from surrounding areas of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Rajshahi Railway station, Bus stations and police stations and found presence of larvae of Aedes in 14 spots of the city.
Meanwhile, though the number of dengue patients has decreased in Rajshahi, the apprehension of the spread of dengue in the city has not yet been waned.
The reproduction season of Aedes mosquito will continue till the middle of September that is why city dwellers have been advised to remain alert from contacting dengue mosquito bites. Health department has also advised to keep under-construction building sites, old buildings, garages and stagnant water sources clean so that no mosquito can breed there.
RMCH sources informed the number of dengue patients in Rajshahi seems to decrease. A total of 14 dengue patients were admitted with the disease to the hospital during the last 24-hour. Of them eight were released. Earlier on Sunday four patients were admitted to hospital while on Saturday it was11 and on Friday it was10. The source further informed, from July 17, patients being attacked with dengue started to be admitted to RMCH and till now 542 dengue patients were treated at the hospital and 523 were released. One patient is now under treatment at the ICU of RMCH, informed Dr Saiful Ferdous, deputy director of RMCH.
Our Bogura correspondent writes: Dengue situation is still remains the same in some northern districts.
The civil surgeons of seven districts of Rajshahi division laid emphasis on raising awareness.
Civil Surgeon Dr Gosul Azim Chowdhury of Bogura district said dengue fever has infected 13 in the last 24 hours. Some 77 are taking treatment across the district including all twelve upazila health complexes. A total 814 people have already been affected with the fever.
Civil Surgeon Dr Zahid Nazrul Choudhury of Chapainawabganj said a total of eight people have been infected with dengue fever in the last 24 hours. Some 34 are taking treatment across the district. A total of 248 people have already been affected with the fever.
Civil Surgeon Dr Shams Uddin of Joypurhat said dengue fever has infected none in the last 24 hours. Some 03 are taking treatment across the district. A total of 76 people have already been affected with the fever.
Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mumunul Haque of Naogaon said dengue fever has infected 05 persons in the last 24 hours. Some 10 are taking treatment across the district. Among them three in Sadar hospital and some two are in Shapaher upazila health complex. A total of 223 people have already been affected with the fever.
Civil Surgeon Dr Md Azizul Islam of Natore said dengue fever has infected 01 person in the last 24 hours. Three people are taking treatment across the district. A total of 158 people have already been affected with the fever.
Civil Surgeon Dr Md Zahidul Islam of Siraganj district said dengue has infected 16 people in the last 24 hours. Some 52 are taking treatment across the district. A total of 545 people have already been affected with the fever. Some 478 patients have been released as they were quite healthy.
In Pabna General Hospital, some 52 dengue patients were taking treatment. Dengue fever has been infected 19 in the last 24 hours. A total of 445 people have already been affected with the fever.
Our Correspon-dent from Sylhet adds: The overall dengue situation in Sylhet division is improving over the last few days.
During the last 24 hours until Monday morning, nine dengue patients were admitted into the different hospitals in the region, including the divisional city.
The number of total patients was 10 on Sunday.
Among the patients admitted today, three were admitted into the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) while three others were admitted into other hospitals in Sylhet.
Till Monday, the overall dengue situation showed much improvement, officials said. The number of daily admission came to the lowest in recent days whereas it was much higher, even in the last week.
Director of Health, Sylhet, Debpada Roy told this correspondent on Monday the number of dengue patients is on the decline for the last few days.
Referring to the latest report on the division's dengue situation, the senior official also informed, since the beginning weeks ago, 717 had so far been diagnosed as dengue patients in Sylhet division and after being cured, 682 of them had been released from the hospitals.
Our Magura Correspondent writes: Dengue situation has improved in Magura district.
Magura civil surgeon office sources said a total of 212 dengue patients were admitted to the Magura 250-bed Hospital and upazila health complexes until August 26.
Among them, 180 patients left hospitals after taking treatment
Magura civil surgeon Pradip Kumar Shaha told this correspondent the number of dengue patients in the district is decreasing.
"We are taking special care of the dengue-affected people. Doctors have been asked to keep dengue patients at hospitals at least two or three days more even after recovery as patients may feel sick again if they do not take sufficient rest."
