Over 2,000 families marooned in C’nawabganj

Over 2,000 families in Sadar and Shibganj upazilas in Chapainawabganj have been marooned due to flashflood caused by on rush of water from the upstream and rise of water levels in the Padma and the Mahananda rivers.

Executive engineer local Water Development Board office Syed Sahidul Alam Zila said the water level in the Padma River started to increase 10 /12 days ago due to onrush of hill water from India.

The water level in the Padma river increased by 5cm and that of Mahananda river by 10 cm in the last 24 hours, he added.

Low-lying areas of Narayanpur, Alatuli, Shahajahanpur, Charanupur, Debinagar of Sadar upazila and Paka, Durlovpur and Monakosha areas of Shibganjupazila went under water due to the flash flood, he said, reports UNB.
