BOGURA, Apr 18: Getting repeated abundant production and fair market price, off-seasonal chilli growers are happy this season growing the item.
The farmers of the district generally grow chilli in the winter season on a commercial basis but some farmers had taken some 300 hectares of land under off-seasonal chili cultivation last year and got a lucrative profit.
They have grown chilli on over 500 hectares of land this season aiming at plenteous production and fair market price this season in twelve upazilas of the district.
The peasants have sown the seed in the high cropland last February and have already started harvesting the crops from last week. They are selling each maund of raw chilli at Tk 3300 to 3500 in the wholesale market.
To grow a maund of row chilli the farmers are to pay only Tk 500 to 800 but getting over Tk 2000 as profit paying production cost, said sub-assistance agriculture officer Faridur Rahman. He said, its cultivation is gaining momentum as its cultivation more easier compared to other summer crops.
The wholesalers from different district visit at Adamdighi, Fateh Ali, Mohasthan, Taluch, Chaumohony, Omarpur, Gabtoly, Dakumara, Shariakandi, Sonatola and Dupchanchia kitchen markets.
"I have cultivated off-seasonal chilli on 23 decimals of land spending Tk 4400," said farmer Kamrul Hasan under Shibganj upazila. I have already sold some five maunds of spice at Tk 17800 and expecting Tk 14500 from the rest of crops," he added.
