Mandatory institutional quarantine for returnees from India relaxed

The mandatory 14-day institutional quarantine system for Bangladeshis returning from India to prevent coronavirus infection has been relaxed.

The doctors on duty at the checkpost medical team will check the health of all returnee passengers and allow those to go home who do not have any corona symptoms.

However, returnees with corona symptoms in their bodies, have been made compulsory to stay in the government institutional quarantine.

As of Thursday evening, all 75 Bangladeshis returning from India were released to stay at home quarantine as they did not have corona symptoms after health check-up.

On May 13, some 260 passengers returning from India were also sent home. These Bangladeshis who were stuck in India are returning to the country through Benapole check post under special arrangements. While on business, medical treatment, study and travel, they were stranded in different parts of India due to lockdown over corona pandemic.

Habibur Rahman, a medical officer at the Benapole Immigration Health Centre, said those who had previously returned from India were placed under mandatory institutional quarantine to prevent corona infection. Now, as per the government directive, returnees from India are being advised to stay in their home quarantine if they do not have corona symptoms. However, if anyone is found with corona symptoms, he is being kept in the institutional quarantine.

Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pulak Kumar Mandal said passengers returning from India would be examined at the Benapole check post by the medical team. If any corona symptoms are found in the body, then he\she will be kept in the institutional quarantine. Those who do not have symptoms are instructed to stay at home quarantine.
