MAGURA, Mar 18: Magura wheat growers are expecting a bumper production this season.
Farmers' sources said in 2017, massive blast attack hampered wheat production in the district. Blast attack caused a negative impact on wheat production here.
In 2018, wheat cultivation slumped. Finally in 2020, they cultivated wheat on a large scale. But now they are free from the panic of blast attack and waiting for a bumper yield of the crop.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura, sources said over 4,690 hectares of land have been brought under wheat cultivation in the district this season. The production is expected to be 15,477 tonnes.
Farmer Golam Faruque of Bashkutha village under Magura Sadar said, "I have brought two bighas of land under wheat cultivation. As the weather was favourable I am expecting around 30 maunds of wheat yield this season."
Another farmer Tipu Biswas of Akshi village under Magura Sadar upazila said, "I have brought three bighas of land under wheat cultivation. I shall be able to earn Tk 28,000 from the sale of my produce. My production cost is Tk 8,000."
Magura DAE official Shohrab Hossen said, "After massive blast attack to wheat in 2017, we restricted growers to cultivate wheat in 2018. Though there was blast attack in 2018, wheat growers were in panic. But blast panic is over and now we are expecting a bumper production."
