Off-season radish farmers of the district are disappointed over the low market price in Bogura district.
Growers are incurring massive losses instead of profit, said farmer Salam Hossain of Mohasthan village under Shibganj upazila.
They could not even get their minimum production cost, he added.
Officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said the department provided all support to the radish cultivators this season.
The officials said they encourage the grassroots growers to bring more land under off-season radish cultivation. But low price breaks their hearts.
"I have invested Tk 4,400 to grow radish on 12 decimals of land," said farmer Abu Kalam of Sadar upazila.
He further said, "I have sold some 120 kg of the vegetable at Tk 600 at Mohasthan Haat."
A good number of farmers said they spent Tk 10 to Tk 12 to produce a kg of radish but selling the same amount at Tk 5.0 to Tk 6.0 in the retail market across the district.
Vegetable vendor Rezaul Karim said growers achieved a good yield this season. Heavy supply is the only reason of the price fall.
Sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Azizur Rahman said the farmers have cultivated the item on six hectares of land this season.
