BOGURA, Aug 12: Hundreds of guava farmers of the district are worried due to low market price.
Moreover, a good number of guava gardens have been attacked by fungal and bacterial diseases.
Sources said each kg of guava is selling at Tk 20 to Tk 30 lower than the previous price in the retail market.
A good number of growers said authority concerned should take an initiative to set up a cold storage in the area.
Cultivators are bound to sell their produce at a throwaway price due to lack of preservation facilities.
Guava plants start flowering in April and May and the fruit ripens in July and August.
"I have cultivated guava at my orchard spending Tk 0.1 million this season but the present low price is really disappointing", said Hamudul Islam, adding, "Immature fruits of my orchard are falling from the trees as my orchard has been affected by a fungal disease."
Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Protul Chadra Sarker said guava production in the district is satisfactory but low market price makes the farmers worried.
