PABNA, July 16: Lotkon growers of Pabna district are delighted over good yield and fair market price this season.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office the farmers have cultivated the crops in a commercial basis due to its noticeable profit across the district season. DAE also provided logistic support among the eager peasants to bring vast area under lotkon cultivation.
In a recent visit at the different big kitchen markets of the district the correspondent found the farmers are passing busy time to processing the crops in a view to sell them to the wholesalers. The wholesalers from the adjacent district are rushing to the area to purchase the fruits.
"I have cultivated the fruit in my own land aiming financially self-reliant this season," said farmer Enamul Haque under Chatmohor upazila of the district. "I have already started harvesting the crops in large scale from last month." he added.
Each KG of fresh fruit is being sold at Tk 80 to 90 in the retail markets while Tk 70 to 75 in the wholesale markets in the all upazilas. The market price of the fruits is increasing day by day due to its rampant demand.
Sub-assistance agriculture officer Azizur Rahman said getting repeated bumper production and fair selling price the farmers of the district show more interest to bring the more crop land under lotkon cultivation this season.
We are monitoring the root level trees to make the programme a grand success from last few years, he added.
