NAOGAON, Nov 11: About 1,000 families in 60 villages under five upazilas of the district have become self-reliant by making Kumro Bori (lentil dumpling).
Winter is knocking the door and the villagers are now passing busy time preparing small pellets of lentil and white pumpkin paste.
Housewife Shikha Saha of Sultanpur area under Naogaon sadar upazila said per kg bori is being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 300 depending on size and quality.
"Our homesteads are being crowded everyday by the wholesalers who are supplying the product throughout the country", she said.
One Nitai Chandra of village Khateshwar under Raninagar upazila said it takes three to four days every time to complete the process of making the item.
Mr Chandra said he has been producing the seasonal Kumro Bori on a commercial basis for over 10 years.
Everyday he along with his family members prepare some 40 kgs to 50 kgs of the product. The business has brought solvency in his family, he added.
Local people said the demand for Kumro Bori is increasing day by day because of its delicate taste. That's why, the bori making has increased here and many unemployed people have changed their fate through it.
