NAOGAON, Sept 10: Classes as well as exams at Lalpara Government Primary School in Manairi union under Atrai upazila are going on under the open sky due to bad shape of the school building.
Regular activities are badly disrupted. The higher officials have already visited the school but no measures have been taken yet, a teacher said.
Sources said cracks have developed in many places of the 17-year school building. It may collapse any time.
School sources said several students and teachers have already been ill doing the classes under the open sky. Academic progress is severely disrupted as the students do not come to the rainy days.
Students, teachers and guardians are worried for the upcoming primary school certificate (PSC) examinations, said president of the school managing committee Saiful Islam Sentu.
Headmaster of the school Ahmed Ali said he sought argent help through the upazila education officer. The academic progress is quite set back due to shortage of accommodation, he added.
Upazila education officer Rukchana Anisa said, "We are trying our best to sanction a new building for the school but the higher authority should be supportive in this connection. Accommodation is quite responsible for low attending rate of students.
