A first year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department of Islamic University in Kushtia allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at a private hostel at Sheikhpara bazar in Shoilakupa upazila on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Saifuzzaman Khan Sayem, 19, son of Azam Khan, hailing from Nagarkanda upazila in Faridpur district, reports UNB.

Witnesses said finding the door of Sayem’s room closed from inside, the other students of the hostel called him several time from outside in the night.

After a while, the students entered his room breaking open the door as there was no response from him.

They found him hanging from a ceiling fan and informed police and the university authorities.

Later, police along with the university’s proctorial body rushed to the spot and recovered Sayem’s body.

A letter recovered from the victim’s room revealed that complexity in love affair was the reason behind his suicide.
