CUMILLA, Jan 04: Cumilla has long been known as a district with a rich history and heritage.
The tourist attractions of this district, rich in tourism sector, attract everyone.
This time, Cumilla's archeological tourism sector has added two more sites - Itakhola and Rupban Mura.
According to Cumilla Department of Archeology sources, the two spots, which have been launched as a new sightseeing site, are archeological sites located in the Mainamati area of Cumilla.
It is located 8.0 km west of Cumilla city, in the adjacent Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) in the Kotbari area.
Regional Director of the Department of Archeology, Chittagong and Sylhet Division (Cumilla Office) Dr Ataur Rahman said establishments like Itakhola and Rupban Mura will enrich the famous Mainamati area further.
Cumilla archeological tourism sector has started a new horizon from, he added.
Mt Rahman also said earlier there was no fee to visit the historical places. But from now on, ticket system has been introduced. Visitors can visit these places by collecting tickets worth Tk 10. But for the students it is Tk 5.0.
Jannatul Ferdous, a student at Cumilla Victoria College, said Cumilla district is rich in archeology sites. There are many more places to visit in the district.
Sources said more archaeological sites in Cumilla have been identified and these could be opened for visitors after renovation.
The government would then be able to generate more revenue from Cumilla's tourism sector.
