Injured BCL leader dies in Jessore

A local Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader, who sustained injuries in a rival attack, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Hasan, 28, joint secretary of Govt City College BCL and son of Jakir Hossain of Nilganj Sahapara.

Locals said Rakib had been at loggerheads with Wahidul, Kalu and Sagar over collecting toll from human haulers plying through the Nilganj bridge.

According to UNB, arbitration was held on Friday afternoon over the issue.

As a sequel to the enmity, three men stabbed Rakib around 7pm on the day while he was crossing the bridge, leaving him critically injured.

The injured was first taken to Jessore General Hospital and then shifted to the KMCH as his condition deteriorated where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning, said AKM Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

Protesting the murder, BCL leaders and activists of the college unit and locals blocked the Jessore-Narail road which halted vehicular movement from 11:30am to 1pm.
