The authority concerned could not start the much desired water supply and sanitation project at Jagonnathpur upazila headquarters in Sunamganj due to absence of site selection.
Locals said the concerned authority should select the site immediately for starting the Tk 500 million project as soon as possible.
A number of senior inhabitants of Jagonnathpur said although the municipality was created in the nineties, there had been no arrangement for supplying drinking water and sanitation facility.
Lack of initiatives of the elected representatives as well as local administration is the main reason, they added.
Present lawmaker from Jagonnathpur and Dakshin Sunamganj upazila constituency MA Mannan (State Minister for Finance and Planning) took some initiatives in this regard.
"We want it to be implemented soon as locals had been suffering much for long", they further said.
Since the municipality doesn't have a suitable or proper site of its own as yet, it had proposed for allotment of a government plot on the area, said assistant engineer of the municipality Satish Goswami.
But it is being delayed causing much for the project, he added.
On implementation the project, it would help meet the longstanding demand for water supply and improved sanitation system of the upazila town residents.
Upazila Public Healh Engineering Department engineer Abdur Rob Sarker said physical work of the project couldn't be started for months only for want of land.
A plot of at least 4.5 acre of land is required for the project, he added.
Concerned departments had been working for it, the official further said.
