Hundreds of ultra-poor people attain solvency by setting up poultry farms in Bogra

BOGRA, Nov 07: Hundreds of ultra-poor people have brought financial solvency by setting up poultry farms across the district.

The district livestock office sources said over 4,500 small and large poultry farms have been set up in the all twelve upazilas. The owners are now making a good profit.

Sources said the sector is expanding rapidly across the district for its high market demand.

Each 2.0-kg chicken is being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 330 in the retail market while Tk 280 to Tk 290 in the wholesale market, said wholesaler Raju Pramanic of Sadar upazila. "Chicken price will be increased within next week", he added.

Besides, each hali (four pieces) of egg is being sold at Tk 28 to Tk 30.

District livestock officer Shafiuzzaman said, "Poultry farm is now a profitable venture. We encourage the unemployed youth to take short-term training and set up poultry farms."

A good numbers of poultry farm owners said they are worry due to high prices of poultry feed.

They urged the authority concerned to take immediate steps in this regard and help the sector flourish.
