Gopalganj road crash kills three

At least three people died and seven others were injured when a bus hit three human-haulers after running over two pedestrians at Kathi on Gopalganj-Kotalipara road in Sadar upazila on Thursday noon.

The deceased were Abul Kalam Mollah, 45, son of Majed Mollah of Kathi village, Al Amin, 50, son of Jamat Mollah of Khanarpar village, and Hamim, 35, of Golabaria village.

Officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Police Station Golam Faruk said the Gopalganj-bound bus of 'Mayer Doa Paribahan' hit two passersby around 12 noon.

UNB said it crashed into three human-haulers while trying to flee after the accident, leaving two people dead on the spot and seven others injured.

One of the injured died on the way to hospital, the OC said. Agitated locals torched the bus and blocked the road, halting vehicular movement.

Police brought the situation under control around 1:30 pm while firefighters doused the flame.
