GOPALGANJ, Dec 3: Farmers of Gopalganj Sadar of the district are excepting a bumper production of Lalzira rice this year.
According to Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Agriculture office sources, a total of 125 hectares of land have been brought under Lalzira (a new origin) cultivation in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila this current year, where production target at 550 tonnes and its harvest is going on full swing.
Bhim Biswas (45), a farmers of village Manikdha under Sadar Upazila said, he is cultivating this paddy Lalzira on two local bighas (52 decimal) of land this year the condition of it growth is satisfactory and I will got a good profit from it, he said.
Nazma Haque, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO), Gopalganj Sadar under Manikdha block of Latifpur union told the FE "Lalzira" a new origin paddy for farmers in this region and its production is good, small investment, less using of fertilisers and pesticides besides short duration with its rice is lusty. As a result farmers are more interest in this farming, she said.
Sultan Mollah (52), another farmer of village Gosherhar under Sadar Upazila said, "Lalzira" paddy is farmer friendship crop, there is no use of extra fertilisers, pesticides and other chemicals and comparatively short duration of others crops besides farmers are getting a good production from its farming, Sultan said.
Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO), Gopalganj Sadar told the FE that weather and soil in this areas are favourable for cultivation of lalzira and farmers in this region is laborious besides investment is small, where one local bighas (52 decimal) spending Tk about 7,000 but farmers getting 25 maunds of paddy of which market price is Tk 30,000, UAO added.
