The indefinite strike enforced by bus owners and workers of Gopalganj district entered second day on Tuesday causing immense sufferings to people.

The indefinite strike was enforced on Monday morning protesting the torching of a bus and demanding stopping the plying of illegal vehicles on Dhaka-Khulna highway.

The decision to enforce the strike came at a meeting of bus owners' and workers' associations held at Gopalganj Police Lines bus stand on Sunday evening.

Two people, including a student of Gopalganj Polytechnic Institute, were killed as a bus skidded off the road and fell into a ditch at Gopinathpur in Sadar upazila on Sunday morning.

Angered at their fellow's death, students of the institute blocked the highway, vandalised several vehicles and torched the bus responsible for the accident, reports UNB.

Meanwhile, police filed a case against 700-800 people on Sunday night for obstructing law enforcers from performing their duties and torching vehicles, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Monirul Islam.
