SYLHET, Mar 30: Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has called upon journalists to monitor and report the development activities all over the country so that things could be implemented on time as well as quality works could be ensured.
"Completion of development projects on time is a major challenge for us", the minister said.
Construction of the Sylhet Central Jail started in 2010. It was a three-year project but was completed in late 2018, he said, adding, the budget went up for time extension.
The minister was addressing Sylhet Press Club's indoor sports prize distribution programme as the chief guest on Saturday.
Sylhet Medical University Vice-Chancellor Morshed Ahmed Chowdhury and district Sports Association General Secretary Mahi Uddin Ahmed Selim were present on the occasion, among others.
'Some vested quarter always try to create obstacles in the development activities for their petty interests', the minister said.
"You media people should always oversee those so that proper implementation could be ensured. Media criticism helps us rectify different anomalies", Dr Momen added.
Considering the long-felt necessity and highest number of tea producers, the country's second tea auction centre had been established at Sreemangal, the foreign minister said, adding, but it is yet to be made fully functional.
Things are on process. Decision would be taken soon for holding two auctions a month at Sreemangal. The tea trader and brokers should have dual membership for Chattogram and Sreemangal auction centres, Dr Momen added.
